Stress is one of the few things you can’t avoid. If you live a normal life, you will definitely be in situations that would cause you stress and worry. Things like your job, bills, family issues all contribute to the level of stress you might be having and could have an adverse effect on your skin condition. Here are 3 ways stress can easily show on your skin and how you can avoid them:

SIGN ONE

Acne: One of the major reasons women get acne is because of hormonal imbalance. Sadly, your hormones are not just affected because of biological reasons, your emotions also matter. If you are stressed or under pressure, this could trigger reactions on your skin such as acne breakouts.

How to avoid: Learn to take deep breaths when you feel overwhelmed, this helps relieve pressure and keep you balanced. Take a deep breath, fill your tummy and hold it in for a few seconds. Release it through your mouth, letting the pressure go with it. Learn to eat fruits and veggies and cut down on sugar intake as much as you can. Drink plenty water to help flush out toxins from your system.

To cover up zits you may have, use a good concealer, preferably one in a tube, to make sure your product is secured from contamination.

SIGN TWO

Under eye bags: Lack of sleep due to stress is unhealthy, not just for your skin, but for your whole body. When you don’t get enough night’s rest, fluid can pool in your lower eye area giving you that puffiness we refer to as eye bags.

How to avoid: get at least eight hours rest every night, there is no way around this. Turn off all appliances with stimulating light (like your phone) to avoid any distractions. You can try wearing a sleep mask if you feel the need to.

If you wake up with puffy eyes, put a spoon in the freezer for a while to make it cold. Using the spoon, lightly massage your under eye area for a few minutes. It would stimulate fluid drainage. Also use a good concealer for coverage and to brighten your eye area.

SIGN THREE

Dry skin: being stressed means you might forget to do some essential things, like drink water. You might also be consuming a lot of coffee or soda to keep yourself alert. They are both very dehydrating and need to be followed up with enough water. If your skin doesn’t get as much water as it needs, it would begin to appear dry and flaky.

How to avoid: drink enough water daily, start with a glass in the morning. If you don’t like drinking water that much, try green tea and fruits with high water content like cucumbers, tomatoes and celery. Supporting your water intake with this will boost your skin’s hydration level and leave you with glowing, healthy skin.

Also, for quick and effective results, use serums and ampoules that are designed to boost skin hydration.

It is important that you remember to take healthy breaks from your daily life. Set time out to relax, lay back and stress about nothing. You deserve it, it’s good for you and it takes less time than you think.
